eLab Communications CEO Will Elkadi Speaks at 2025 PIT UN Regional Career Fair

Championing Ethical Technology, Civic Engagement, and Digital Storytelling for Public Impact

Monterey, CA — March 2025 — Will Elkadi, CEO of eLab Communications, was a featured panelist at the 2025 Public Interest Technology (PIT) UN Regional Career Resource Fair, held on March 20 at San Jose State University. The event brought together over 85 students from San Jose State, San Francisco State University, and California State University, Monterey Bay to explore career paths in civic-minded technology.

Elkadi spoke on the panel “Charting Careers in Public Interest Technology: Opportunities and Impact,” alongside Shriya Arora (AutoDesk), David Pera (San Francisco Public Utilities Commission), and Trevor Basil (AI Professor, San José State University). The session was moderated by Ms. Cori Okiyo Miller, Executive Director of the Career Center at San Francisco State University.

“It was an honor to speak at the PIT UN Career Fair and share how technology, when used responsibly, can create meaningful impact in our communities,” said Elkadi. He addressed key questions on topics such as:

  • Why it's crucial to consider technology's impact on society,

  • How to overcome professional challenges in civic tech,

  • Strategies for keeping up with rapid technological change, and

  • How to build trust with diverse communities through tech-driven initiatives.

Elkadi also engaged directly with students, answering questions related to linguistics technology, job hunting in the PIT field, and post-graduation career development. He highlighted the importance of combining technical skills with community insight and shared how eLab's initiatives, like AI-assisted legal translation systems and a full-service media production studio, are designed to empower voices and reduce digital barriers.

“Public Interest Technology is about more than code—it’s about people,” Elkadi added. “At eLab, we’re proud to combine innovation with ethics to help communities thrive—whether through digital storytelling, responsible AI, or access to justice.”
